Sailor Moon and Green Lantern Team-Up?

"In the name of the moon..." or "In brightest day, In blackest night..."

I've been a comic book fan much longer than I've been an anime fan, so whenever I watch anime I can't help but notice similarities to some of my favorite comic book characters. I watched Death Note and couldn't help but think that L and Light's relationship is like Batman and the Joker. Whenever I see All Might from Boku no Hero Academia, I almost always think of Superman.

That's why I couldn't help but notice a strange parallel between the tropes and characters from Sailor Moon and the DC superhero, Green Lantern. At first glance, you might think I'm crazy since these are two very different stories and the characters of Sailor Moon and Green Lantern don't resemble each other in the slightest.

Hear me out, I've been doing a lot of research into the magical girl genre for a story I'm working on, and I've also been reading Green Lantern stories since I was a kid. I may not have a degree in comic books or anime, but I still know my stuff.

Okay, so where do I start...

I guess I look at how both characters, the Green Lantern and Sailor Moon, get their powers that transform them into superheroes. Usagi Tsukino was found by a talking magic cat (from space) that gave her brooch that transformed Usagi into Sailor Moon. Hal Jordan was chosen by a purple alien (from space) and was given a power ring that transformed Hal in the Green Lantern of space sector 2814.

And that's another thing, both Sailor Moon and Green Lantern transform into superheroes. Bruce Wayne trained and became Batman, Clark Kent was born Kal-El and became Superman, but both Green Lantern and Sailor Moon were given a magical item that transformed them into superheroes. Even their costumes are a result of their ring/brooch.

Green Lantern and Sailor Moon are also not alone in their fight for justice. Green Lantern is just one member of a Green Lantern Corps and Sailor Moon is the leader of the Sailor Scouts, who each represent a different planet in the solar system.

However, while the Green Lantern Corps have the same kind of power ring along with the same powers, the Sailor Scouts transform using pens and though their abilities are similar, they each have a unique ability. For example, Sailor Mercury has powers that relate to water and bubbles, while Sailor Mars has powers that relate to fire and explosions.

But it's important to note that the Green Lantern Corps are not the only ring-wielders in the universe, since there is also a Red Lantern Corps, Blue Lantern Corps, and more. And even though each of the different Lantern Corps' have similar power rings, the abilities of each ring is different, like the individual Sailor Scouts.

Then there are the love interests of these two characters. Sailor Moon has Tuxedo Mask and Green Lantern has Star Sapphire. In a past life, Mamoru Chiba was a prince of the earth and was in love with the princess of the moon, who would later be reincarnated as Sailor Moon. Mamoru does not clearly remember his past and whenever Sailor Moon is in danger, he unknowingly transforms into the hero Tuxedo Mask.

Star Sapphire is actually kinda similar. Carol Ferris is the owner of Ferris Aircraft, the business where Hal Jordan works as a test pilot. They've known each other since they were kids and are on-again-off-again lovers. Carol is chosen by a race of aliens to be their queen and given a supernatural stone that turns her into the Star Sapphire. Like Tuxedo Mask, Carol Ferris has no memories of her actions as Star Sapphire and is unaware that she becomes the femme fatale.

While Tuxedo Mask is an ally to Sailor Moon, Star Sapphire is one of Green Lantern's most powerful foes. However, since the 2007 story "Mystery of the Star Sapphire", the Star Sapphire has been more of an ally to Green Lantern.

So, what does this all mean? Did Naoko Takeuchi, the creator of Sailor Moon, come up with Sailor Moon after reading Green Lantern comic books? I don't think there is any indication of that, especially since Usagi Tsukino are two very different characters. Did later Green Lantern writers binge-watch Sailor Moon to add new elements to the Green Lantern mythos? I can't find anything that would prove that, and honestly a lot of superheroes, like Sailor Moon and Green Lantern, share a lot of elements in their origins and appearances.

I bring up this Sailor Moon and Green Lantern topic because not only do I find these parallels so interesting, but because I think it would be awesome to see a Sailor Moon and Green Lantern crossover in the future.

Crossovers are nothing new in comic books. Fans have seen Batman and Superman team-up numerous times and there are some team-ups that are so bizarre, I don't know how they happened. There's a Star Trek and Green Lantern crossover, Spawn and Batman, Justice League and Power Rangers, and even a crossover between Marvel superheroes and Attack on Titan.

I don't see why a Green Lantern and Sailor Moon crossover is so unbelievable. Besides being superheroes, both characters have similar abilities and origins, meaning that neither character would find the other that strange. I don't know who would have to make it happen, but I'd like to see it happen.
