Fear...

In the Green Lantern mythos, fear is an enemy that has to be overcome and defeated in order to save the day. But what about a Green Lantern who embraces fear and turns it into his greatest weapon?
PC: Andrew James Rocha
In case you didn't read my post about "Secret Origin", Sinestro is the most infamous of Green Lantern's villains. What makes Sinestro interesting among supervillains is that he used to be a Green Lantern. Sinestro was once considered to be the greatest Green Lantern until he established his own dictatorship on his planet of Korugar. His fall was brought about by his new friend, Hal Jordan. Sinestro would become Hal's greatest foe and plot his revenge against Jordan and the Green Lantern Corps.

"Sinestro Corps War" is the culmination of Sinestro's revenge. While Green Lanterns are armed with power of will, Sinestro has given power rings fuels by fear to a terrifying army of monsters and killers. While Green Lanterns are able "To Overcome Fear", Sinestro's soldiers are know for their ability "To Instill Fear". And what gives the Sinestro Corps an edge over the Green Lanterns, is that their yellow rings are capable of lethal force, an ability that a Green Lantern ring does not possess.

This is an awesome war story for anyone with a love for large-scale science fiction conflicts. All of the members of the Sinestro Corps are unique in their ability to terrify that will likely give readers more then the heebie-jeebies. There is Arkillo, a large and primitive warrior who trained the soldiers in the Sinestro Corps. There is Karu-Sil, the silent woman surrounded by a pack of wild dogs. There is even Superman-Prime, a sadistic version of Superman from a world where superheroes only exist in comic books.

There are also so many individual stories that are just so great to read that I might write future posts detailing these individual stories. One that I really want to highlight here is Green Lantern Sodam Yat's battle against Superman-Prime. The story paints Sodam Yat's tragic origin story alongside an intense battle between two titans.

"Sinestro Corps War" is just such a great story with so much action and drama, that fans - new and old - should try to track down the issues and read it for themselves. Because the comics are all from various titles and one-shots, it might be difficult to collect every chapter of this epic, but I assure you that it is worth it.
